Meet Bez: Dancing on Ice 2022 contestant and Happy Mondays star

It's clear Bez has nailed the entertainment factor when it comes to the ITV skating show, and he'll no doubt be hoping to keep it up this weekend.

So, what will he be skating to?

The Dancing on Ice songs have been revealed for Week Six, and Bez and his professional skating partner will be skating to Bat Out of Hell!

As his journey continues, here's everything you need to know about Bez – one of the Dancing on Ice 2022 contestants.

Bez is best known for being a part of the band Happy Mondays, in which he played the percussion and entertained crowds with his energetic and fun dancing. He went on to be a part of the band Black Grape when Happy Mondays called it a day, but exited in 1997.

Bez has continued to make a name for himself outside of his maraca playing, becoming the winner of Celebrity Big Brother in 2005. He only took part in the show so he could pay his tax bill.

Does Bez have COVID?

The Happy Mondays star previously tested positive for COVID-19.

On Monday, 17th January, the Happy Mondays star revealed: "‘I’ve had a positive test. I'm gutted because I’m going to be missing training but I’m looking forward to skating on the show again for week three and I’ll be tuning at home and cheering on my mates who are skating this weekend."

At the time, an ITV spokesperson said: "We have stringent protocols in place to ensure the health and safety of all our contributors and staff which are routinely monitored and updated to reflect the current guidelines."

When did Bez return to Dancing on Ice?

Bez returned to the series on Sunday 30th January after isolating for the recommended period.

He wasn't due to appear on the previous week's episode (23rd January) as he performed on the launch night. However, he had to take a break from training after the positive test. He's now back in the competition and performing again.

Bez's Dancing on Ice score:

Week One: 3.0, 3.5, 3.0, 3.5 = 12.5 (safe)

Week Three: 4.5, 4.5, 4.5, 4.5 = 18 (safe)

Week Four: 5.5, 4.5, 5.0, 5.0 = 20 (safe)

Week Five: 5.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.0 = 19.5 (safe)

Despite scoring the lowest in Week One, Bez was put through to Week Three, as Ria Hebden and her pro partner Łukasz Różycki were put into the skate-off.

Bez was saved once again in Week Three for his performance in Movie Week, although he scored the lowest and finished at the bottom of the leaderboard. Nevertheless, he managed to improve on his Week One performance, as he scored 18 points, 5.5 points more than his debut performance.

That score jumped slightly again to 20 in Week Four but took a slight dip in Week Five. Will Bez's luck run out in Week 6?

What has Bez said about joining Dancing on Ice 2022?

"This is going to be a whole new experience. I might quite grow to like it," he previously said when asked by Phil and Holly on This Morning whether he was ready to don sequins and lycra before the start of the competition.

He also stressed that he has no idea how he made it onto the show, adding: "How I got picked I don't know, because I was absolutely awful at the audition." He went on to describe himself as more like Bambi on Ice, which sounds about right.

Ahead of the launch, Bez revealed he'd had some "spectacular falls" during training for Dancing on Ice.

"I’ve been doing some spectacular falls, mostly involving my head crashing into the ice," he told RadioTimes.com. "I wear a helmet so yeah, nothing too serious. And I’ve actually got a little bit better this week. I only fell over once yesterday.”
